Title: POLYHIERARCHICAL CLASSIFICATIONS INDUCED BY CRITERIA Research Question: How can we create a more efficient and flexible system for categorizing and organizing information? Methodology: The researchers proposed a new approach to construct general persistent polyhierarchical classifications. They based their method on implicit description of category polyhierarchies through a generating polyhierarchy of classification criteria. This approach allows for the explicit predefinition of domains of criteria applicability and maintains the semantics of relations between categories, regardless of changes in the universe composition, variety of criteria, or their cardinalities. Results: The generating polyhierarchy serves as an independent, compact, portable, and reusable information structure. It can be associated with specific sets of objects, included in more general classifications, or used as a prototype for more comprehensive classifications. This approach dramatically simplifies the development and modification of hierarchical classifications compared to tree, DAG, and faceted schemes. It also allows for efficient implementation in common DBMS and reduces the amount of computer resources required for storage, maintenance, and use of complex polyhierarchies. Implications: This new approach to constructing general persistent polyhierarchical classifications offers several benefits. It simplifies the process of categorizing and organizing information, making it more efficient and flexible. It also allows for the use of multiple classification criteria simultaneously, which can be particularly useful in complex information systems. Additionally, it reduces the amount of resources required for maintaining and using these classifications, making them more practical for large-scale applications.
