Title: Personalized Interaction with Digital Libraries Research Question: How can we create personalized interfaces to support user interaction with digital libraries? Methodology: The researchers developed a system for automatic generation of interfaces to support personalized interaction with digital libraries. They used a framework called "staging transformations" to model user-DL dialogs and created two interfaces for out-of-turn interaction: a toolbar for textual input and voice-enabled content pages for speech input. Results: The study revealed that users are adept at recognizing when out-of-turn interaction is necessary. They also highlighted the need for supplemental operators to enhance the personalized experience. The researchers found that their system could support basic out-of-turn interaction and generalized out-of-turn interaction, as well as other techniques like meta-enquiry and result collection. Implications: The research suggests that personalized interfaces can significantly improve user interaction with digital libraries. By allowing users to supply out-of-turn information and restructure the dialog, these interfaces can better accommodate user's information-seeking goals and provide a more effective and efficient way to access and navigate digital library content.
